1. Book of the Dead: What does this document, basically an instruction booklet for the dead, tell us about ancient Egyptian society, including what the Afterlife looked like and what sense of “morality” existed? How is it different from what the Hebrews’ vision?
2. Exodus/The Decalogue: What does the Decalogue and the Covenant (define!) tell us about the relationship between the ancient Israelites and (their) God? How was it different from the relationship between other peoples and their god(s) we’ve studied (Mesopotamians, Egyptians specifically)? What do the Commandments suggest about ancient Hebrew society?
