Many Americans believe that they are middle class, that they will be rich someday, and that people who are successful achieved their success primarily through their own hard work and ingenuity. Similarly, there is a pervasive belief that the poor are lazy. What do Conley, Plumer, Edin and Shaefer argue is the true nature of inequality and wealth accumulation?
