Understanding the criteria, as well as the similarities and differences among these disorders, is an important component of the diagnostic process. In addition, it is imperative for all clinicians to clearly understand the importance of risk assessment and how to effectively conduct an assessment.
Tasks:
In a minimum of 500 words, post to the Discussion Area your responses to the following:
- Choose three of the following diagnoses: major depressive disorder (MDD), bipolar disorder, adjustment disorder, acute stress disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
- Compare and contrast the symptoms (i.e., duration, severity, and frequency), developmental and cultural considerations, and one treatment option for each and consider how to differentiate among the diagnoses.
- Discuss how you would address a client who states he or she is contemplating suicide. What are the most important questions you would ask the client? What are some of the risks you would assess for?
Support your rationale and analysis by using at least two resources from professional literature in your response.
