Students, here is your writing assignment. i will have paper copies for you on Monday. Be sure to use Kant’s Categorical Imperatives (both formulations), consider good will and rationality, and focus on intention rather than consequences!
The assignment must be printed, so i can makes notes on it. Your paper should be at least two full pages long, 1.5-spaced, with regular margins. Be sure to cite any sources, with proper quotation marks around any quotes. For 25 points of extra credit, you can write a second argument from one of the options below. A fun thing to do might be to write a second argument on the topic you chose, taking an opposing position from your first argument!

Argue ONE of the following four essay prompts. YOU WILL BE ARGUING AS A KANTIAN DEONTOLOGIST. THIS IS CRUCIAL TO YOUR ESSAY.
- As a Kantian “duty ethicist,” make an argument for or against the Death with Dignity Act for terminally ill patients (physician-generated lethal prescriptions).
- As a Kantian “duty ethicist,” make an argument for or against legalizing prostitution. This does NOT include children or sex trafficking.
- As a Kantian “duty ethicist,” make an argument for or against abortion in cases of rape, incest, or the health of the mother.
- As a Kantian “duty ethicist,” make an argument for or against public business owners with “sincerely held religious beliefs” being allowed to withhold services from the LGBT community (or anyone else to whom they might object).
