The case study demonstrates that there were a number of issues with the Philadelphia high rise fire. One issue was that the firefighters were not familiar with stand pipe system and did not realize that pressure reducing devices had been installed. This could have been identified through prefire planning. Had this been know firefighters could have removed the reducers and removed them prior to connecting their attack lines with automatic nozzles.

Location of fire hydrants.
Presence and location of any fire protection systems. (sprinkler system in building)
Presence and location of any fire alarms. (smoke alarms)
Presence and location of any key box. (none)
